Luck of the Irish

Perry Webb makes no secret of his love for Notre Dame's Fighting Irish, but he might be trying to keep it a secret that the Springdale Chamber of Commerce pays for his trips to watch them play.

Mr. Webb might say he gets a commission for selling sponsorships for programs as he was quoted in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. This is the same explanation used by Brian Moore for his exotic honeymoon and anniversary trips.

However, it seems improbable Webb would get a commission on top of an already lofty salary. See 2007 Form 990 ( pg. 5).

Another explanation given by 2009 Chairman Blake Hanby is that members pay the Chamber back for the trips. Giving Webb the benefit of the doubt, we searched every bank deposit provided by the Chamber and found nothing from anyone with the last name WEBB.

See the flight itinerary for September 26 - 28 , 2007.

This airline ticket for October 14, 2007 cost the Chamber $1025.90. Coincidentally, there was a sold out rivalry game against USC held that weekend.

  1. Yeah, checked that itinerary...seems to me the only Chamber spending was to the legitimate Chamber meetings in the respective towns listed as stops. Doesn't show any stops to South Bend or northwest Arkansas, therefore no tickets purchased, by the Chamber. Looks like Mr. Webb foot that part himself. So either Pandora cannot read an itinerary, or she is trying to taint the information, hoping someone will not check the link. Either way, makes me not want to believe what is written by Pandora!

  2. Check again. The Chamber's American Express statement shows they paid for tickets to South Bend.

  3. Am I missing something? The itinerary clearly lists South Bend. Is that not where Notre Dame is? Oh, and how can you tell those were "legitimate Chamber meetings" on the stops?

  4. Why would "Pandora" put a link up thinking nobody would look at it? Makes no sense.

  5. If Webb wants us to believe he did nothing wrong, he will publicly produce a 1099-MISC for the trips.

  6. I am still not seeing where Webb went to South Bend. I see where he went FROM South Bend.
